Who died first in Warcraft Logs, and why

Warcraft Logs' Deaths view lists each pull's deaths in order, with the ability that killed them. The first death is usually the one to read: the rest often follow from it. LogSnitch lays the first death of every pull side by side, with the hits that led to it.

How do I see the deaths in order?

Check it on Warcraft Logs

  1. Open the report on warcraftlogs.com and pick the pull.
  2. Open Deaths: each death with its time and killing blow, in order.
  3. Open a death to see the hits and heals before it.
  4. Repeat for each pull to see whether the same player, or the same mechanic, comes first.

Why does the first death matter most?

A death changes the pull: a soak is one player short, the healers are stretched, a job goes undone. The deaths after it are often its consequences, and after a few the pull is lost. Mistakes made then belong to the wipe, not to the players (death cutoff).

What killed them?

The killing blow and the hits just before it. LogSnitch's death recap shows the last hits taken for every death. When the log names no killer, the death shows as "Unknown" and is read as a death with no cause, never guessed.

Did they have a defensive ready?

The recap shows which personal defensives the player pressed before dying, and which they could still have pressed. That second list is an estimate: no API gives a spell's cooldown, so LogSnitch keeps its own table of defensives and their cooldowns, and says so.

How do I see only what led to the first death?

Set Count until to 1 death: every mechanic, not only the deaths, is then counted up to the first death of each pull. The default counts until the wipe began, read from the log.

How does LogSnitch show deaths?

  • What killed you: the first death of each pull and the abilities that killed most.
  • A deaths card: every player, every pull, with the killing blow.
  • The pull's own view: who died, when, and the recap of each death.
